Klaviyo vs Omnisend: Which Free Store-Marketing Pilot Can Reach Your List?

Omnisend is our conditional pick for testing a small segment of a larger consented, marketable database. Its $0/month Free plan permits unlimited contact uploads but reaches at most 250 unique contacts with 500 monthly emails. Klaviyo's free email allowance is also 500/month for up to 250 profiles, with active profiles determining the sending block. If the active audience fits, Klaviyo remains viable; this is not a full-store verdict. Our methodology distinguishes stored data from eligible reach.

What does the pilot actually need to prove?

Our methodology prioritizes the ability to send to the intended test audience, then what happens to a larger imported database. We reviewed official plan help and acceptable-use policies. We did not connect a store, validate event synchronization or measure attributed revenue. Passing these capacity checks does not establish that an integration is correctly configured.

Choose a consented segment and write down the experiment's messages before import. A cart sequence, welcome sequence and broadcast can compete for the same limited monthly email budget. Validate the remaining allowance in the account before turning a production flow live.

Can uploading the full store database invalidate the free test?

For Klaviyo, the free active-profile ceiling can block sending. Fully processed suppressed profiles can remain stored without counting as billable profiles. Our recommendation concerns a larger marketable audience, not an archive of suppressed records. Check the active-profile count before treating the free tier as a production pilot.

Omnisend's plan guide separates uploaded contacts from reachable recipients. It explicitly instructs Free users to create a segment within the reach cap. The same article also uses a shorter free-contact label elsewhere; we rely on its explicit upload/segment explanation, not an assumption of unlimited free reach. That distinction is why Omnisend leads this narrow scenario.

What needs checking before the pilot becomes paid?

Omnisend says non-subscribers receiving automated messages can count toward billing. Do not budget from the marketing-subscriber number alone. Its plan guide also excludes SMS from new Standard subscriptions started on or after May 4, 2026. A successful email-only pilot therefore does not validate a later SMS budget.

Klaviyo's acceptable-use policy prohibits purchased-list sending. Omnisend's AUP requires directly obtained marketing consent, and its contact-status guide says campaigns filter to subscribed contacts. A billable record is not automatically eligible for a promotional campaign.

The US paid Klaviyo quote was not captured after a pricing-page locale redirect. We therefore use English help for email limits and leave paid cost comparisons to a fresh account quote. For broader selection, see the ecommerce shortlist.

FAQ

Does Omnisend Free let me email every uploaded contact?

No. Upload capacity and free sending reach are different. A larger import does not remove the recipient cap.

Can Klaviyo Free continue sending above its profile cap?

Its billing help says sending is blocked above the Free active-profile limit. Reduce the active audience or upgrade before continuing.

Does paying only for Klaviyo SMS remove email branding?

No. The branding rule requires a paid email/profile account; SMS-only payment is insufficient.
